"Hatecrime" Numbers Down in Canada, Minority Greivance Theatre Industry Mourns

This is a very, very interesting article. This is bad news for professional minorities, but good news for the therapy industry, as thousands of leaders of formerly "persecuted" Canadian minorities will have to rush out and seek counselling and (hopefully) vocational training.

Now, I'm not a mathematician. I'm just a stupid hatemongering, Islamphobic, racist, intolerant anonymous wordsmith. HOWEVER. These numbers need examining.

Police services in Canada reported 785 crimes that were motivated by hate in 2007, down from 892 in 2006.

Statistics Canada reports that Canada's population is about 33,504,700.

Now is the time for Hatemonger Math. Let's see, 33,504, 700 divided by 785 =42, 681

Plus: In both 2006 and 2007, mischief offences, such as acts of graffiti on public property, accounted for about half of all police-reported incidents of hate crime. Overall, 3 in 10 hate crimes involved violence, usually minor assault or uttering threats, in which the victim suffered little or no physical harm.One-third (32%) of persons accused of committing a hate-motivated crime in 2007 were youth 12 to 17 years of age. This was almost double the proportion of youth accused of committing crimes in general (17%).

In other words, throughout the entire country, the entire "I'm offended/I'm being persecuted" community is most often being 'offended' and 'persecuted' by graffiti, which is most likely being scribbled by teenagers. What a load of hooey.
