Never forget: Ilan Halimi, a 23-year-old mobile phone salesman, went missing in Paris in January 2006. After being lured by a young woman from the mobile phone shop where he worked, he was held captive for more than three weeks in a Paris suburb. Authorities found him naked, handcuffed and covered with burn marks from cigarettes near railroad tracks south of Paris on February 13, 2006. He died on the way to the hospital, having bled to death from stab wounds to his neck. Halimi’s abductors had tortured him while demanding a 450,000 euros ransom from his family and the Jewish community.

Justice Can't Be Veiled

There has been precious little web chatter about this continuing discussion of the "right" of a woman to have her face veiled in court. It certainly would change our system if this were allowed to happen. There are systems, oh-I don't know-such as Sharia, that accommodate this practice. I have to wonder if this is an independent challenge, or part of a concerted effort-no conspiracy tin hat theory-just a sense that Sharia creep is everywhere now. Our banking system, mortgages, schools and workplaces all have to be so preciously accommodating nowadays. Some Sharia challenges to the order of things-such as the cab drivers in Minnesota and the haram blind dogs, do not happen spontaneously. They have to be coordinated and organized, with behind the scenes support for the players and certain PR and media expertise to handle the press. Is this a test case for Canada? Perhaps. There has also been very little discussion on how this (traditional) woman's family is handling the situation. Will she be in danger from her own family for testifying? Is her honour on the line? It seems that there are a number of issues hiding behind this veiled threat to justice that are worth discussing.

Integration? You never said a word about it. Good News From the UK: Joking About Teh Ghey is Now Illegal Hate Speech

It appears to be illegal now in the UK to make jokes about Teh Ghey. "A BID to halt legislation banning gay jokes which stir up hatred was defeated yesterday. MPs from all parties tried to include a defence of “free speech” into the Bill which makes it a criminal offence to incite hatred over sexual orientation. But their attempt was defeated in a Commons vote by 328 to 174." I wonder if it's illegal only for straight people to joke about gays, or if it's hate speech if a gay person makes a joke about being gay. Is it also hate speech if someone says: that's so GAY-you know, like we did in the 1980s? This is seriously unfunny stuff, mates. It's Elton John's birthday today. Here is a story about the Canadian government preparing what will ultimately be a fruitless defence of two-person marriage. Ultimately, by legalizing gay "marriage", there is absolutely nothing that can stop the speeding train of polygamy from ramming into our civilization. The government is suggesting that polygamy challenges the amorphous concept of "Canadian values", but this will fall on the deaf ears of liberal judicial activist judges and the too-much-time-on-their-hands gay lobbyists. How many gay marriages have actually been consecrated here in Canada anyway? A couple hundred, if that? Sure makes you wonder why there was such a big effort to legalize it. The government, you'll note-has been 'keeping an eye' on the Bountiful polygamists for some time. I wish I were confident that they were also keeping an eye on the Muslim polygamists, who openly brag about contravening Canadian law by performing second and third marriage ceremonies for local Muslims. Once the government loses this battle, it will be mildly comical to watch as people plead their case to marry their siblings or parents. Pets, cars or the Blackberry's (which they probably love more than humans anyway) will surely be next.

I think Barack Obama has published more articles with a Presidential byline than he did as a SERIOUS ACADEMIC SCHOLAR (not). He has no publishing history in academic journals, no substantive articles from his time as the editor of the Harvard law school journal. Other than the fanastically vain publication of not one, but two autobiographies and a forthcoming children's version of one of said autobiographies, it seems like his publishing career is just starting to take off now. Perhaps some American readers can help me out? Is it standard operating procedure for a sitting President to be churning out Op-Ed pieces in the mainstream media? I know Ronald Reagan had his weekly radio addresses as governor of California, but is there a precedent for sitting Presidents to have fluff pieces in the mainstream media? Does this seem beneath the office of the POTUS to you?

Ontario Human Rights Commission Rejects Complaint Against Syd Ryan: Complainants Were Christian, Not Jewish

The Closet Conservative received this little bit of news and was told to spread it around. Kudos to Rob Cheshire, Ron Verhooeckx and Matt Ford for their efforts. Right-thinking people do not use the left's tactics of Human Rights complaints to silence and intimidate their intellectual opponents. These Canadians are just showing, through their complaint, the hypocrisy and Orwellian nature of the "human rights" racket. I am sure that if three Jews filed the same complaint, it would be rejected as well.

"On January 5th 2009, Sid Ryan of CUPE was quoted and headlined in many newspapers boycotting Israeli and Jewish academics on Canadian University campuses. This was in direct response to Israel and the IDF launching a counter offensive into Gaza with infantry and armour after four weeks of rocket attacks from Hamas, repeated warnings and the breaking of a truce. Israel had and has a right to defend itself against aggression especially when the attacks were unprovoked and launched against civilian targets, and therefore of a terrorist nature.

On January 5th Matt Ford, Ron Verhooeckx and Myself ( Rob Cheshire ) filed complaint with the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal against Mr. Sid Ryan for his anti-Semitic remarks and posturing. This indeed was not the first or even the second time that Mr. Ryan has made such remarks against Israel or the Jewish people. He has never condemned any other state besides Israel calling it an Apartheid State, in 2007. In 2006, Ryan called for the divestment of Israel and endorsed a global boycott of Israel, Israeli trade and goods. While Ryan rants at Israel for defending its sovereign nation and borders, he said nothing of Hamas or Hezbollah and their unprovoked rocket attacks at civilians. And it may be said that Mr. Ryan's comments incited protests of support for groups like Hamas which are outlawed here in Canada. In min January, supporters of Sid Ryan gathered at the CUPE building (Toronto)and a small group of counter protesters gathered across the street, some carrying Israeli flags.

The pro Ryan supporters chanted unrepentantly, "Die Jew Die!". I met with some of these pro-Israel supporters and they actually feared for their lives that day. The Toronto Police Services could not contain the aggressive Hamas, Hezbollah and Ryan supports, and the pro-Israel group was angrily chased from their position. On Thrusday February 19th and Sunday the 22nd while CUPE met in Windsor at the Hilton to confer on resolutions, the Jewish Defence League under the direction of Meir Weinstein staged a pro-Israel rally across the street from the Hilton Hotel on Riverside Drive West here in Windsor. We braved the cold and wind with a crowd of 120, many of which were bussed in from Toronto. I met the buses at an undisclosed location at 4:00AM, and we hit the streets of Windsor at 8:00AM until 1:00PM. During the rally a man driving a black sports car with a Palestinian flag protruding through the sun roof attempted to run us down, and was detained by Windsor Police Service. There were other unpleasantries, with minor verbal exchanges and some threats from the Ryan supporters. But of course this is what the leftists do is hide behind masks and utter threats against a rally for free speech and the right for nationhood.

Unfortunately, resolution 50 was passed by CUPE. This resolution censors free thought, intellectualism and exchanges at Universities, is biased and anti-Semitic. Not all of CUPE was in favour of the resolution, Windsor president, Aldo DiCarlo condemned Ryan's actions as: "Just Wrong!" and called for his resignation. I applaud Mr. Di Carlo, for his brave stance, under great political pressure. Our complaint against Mr. Ryan was returned to us on March 17th, stating that our complaint had no merit since we complainants were Christians and not Jews, and therefore not from the targeted group of hate. We feel that any affront to any Canadian is an affront to all, and allowing anti-Semitism to gain momentum is much the same tactic, as that which transpired in Germany during the 1930's. Anti-Semitism whether voiced by the likes of Sid Ryan or others, needs to be condemned and silenced for what it is, hatred against Jews. I have noticed an increase in Anti-Semitism and biased talk against the Jewish people of late.

Canada cannot remain free if this type of behaviour is tolerated. The Ontario Human Rights Commission in rejecting our complaint helps feed the idea that this type of lip speak is acceptable, and condemns hatred and hate speech. I invite all Canadians to lift their voices against such and the likes of Mr. Ryan.

Fighting Our Own Battles

Mark Steyn has painted an accurate, and depressing snapshot of the state of individual courage and the timid state of passivity that exists in Canada specifically, and in the Western world in general. He describes the beheading of the innocent, young Tim McLean’s on a Greyhound bus, and reviews the way passengers ran away, and police just sat by, and describes the macabre police play by play of the subsequent horrific murder at the hands of the allegedly mentally ill Vincent Li. It was a scene where nobody made an attempt to stop the evil. He contrasted the scene to Virginia Tech, where elderly Holocaust survivor Liviu Librescu used his body as a barrier to prevent the gunman from killing his students. Again this week, Western society is relying on elderly World War II veterans to denounce the evil in the UK, whereby British "Asians" (a.k.a Muslims) demonstrated against British soldiers returning from duty. The core of Western civilization rests upon a belief in the freedom, the value and the power of the individual. These individuals come together and together, we agree at times to even sacrifice our own lives, and our own children's lives (through military service) to protect our greater society, and to ensure the freedom of future generations. Without individual responsibility and action, there can be no democratic society and we cannot protect our own families and communities. The events detailed by Mark Steyn are a clear rallying cry: each of us living within this glorious free world has to stop thinking 'someone ought to do something about that' and actually be the someone who does it. Each of us, with the weapons at our disposal-the pen, the computer, the internet, the military, public policy, public service, voluntarism, has to do our own part. It is pathetic and inexcusable that the veterans who won the last world war, are being forced-by acclamation-to be the ones publicly name and fight the evil in our midst . It is outrageous that a Holocaust survivor is the one who shielded our children with his body. In the future, historians may well point to these very events as the kind of seminal moments that marked the complete and potentially irreversible undoing of Western Judeo-Christian society.

Parent of Ayers Student May Be Charged With "Interference With A Public Institution of Higher Education"

According to Lt. Roy Acree of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Police Department, parent Mark Thompson was arrested on a charge of “interference with a public institution of higher education” because of his activity at the Ayers lecture. Ironically, the statute (720 ILCS 5/Art. 21.2 heading) was passed "in recognition of unlawful campus disorders across the nation," which is precisely what Ayers and his comrades in the Students for a Democratic Society were doing on college campuses in the 1960s.

Very Diverse Lunch

Earlier this week, I had lunch with a colleague who I found out recently, is part of the secret underground of joyful people. There were three of us at lunch. With impeccable timing, "J" said to me that he believes the correct term is "little people". I almost fell off my chair. The thing that is pathetic is that I had to find out over the course of several years who I can have a laugh with about this stuff. There really needs to be secret handshake or a secret t-shirt or song, otherwise, like-minded people with little tollerance for liberal fantasy life, totalitarian and opressive political correctness, and make-work utopian projects have to resort to apprehensively throwing out little trial balloons, desperate seeking other fun, joyful people. "J" told us the story of a British comedy troop that spoofed the self-esteem movement. Passengers on a plane hear the captain come on the PA system and announce that, unfortunately, the plane is going to crash and there is nothing he can do about it. The pilot says "it's really a shame we are all going to die, but really, it's because I never did pass my tests at flight school, but they passed me anyways because of the affirmative action programs-but the main thing is, I feel really good about myself". The other freaky-deaky thing that happened at work was a colleague who actually quoted Rashid Khalidi as an expert. He was saying "it's like Rashid Khalili said..." and my mind kind of went blank. I knew this person had Islamist sympathies, but when you hear someone like that refered to casually as a respected source-you know you are in big trouble. I can't really divulge more details, but I have some serious concerns about this person's political activism.
