Some of you may have heard already that
there is a 17 year old girl missing in Toronto.
A recent new immigrant from Georgia, she apparently walked with her brother to school but never made it inside the building.
It's a very strange case-the police apparently have no leads.
The area where she 'disappeared' from is a very safe, highly populated Jewish neighbourhood.
I know it well.
There have been some unusual twists to the story. Apparently, the father was recently acquitted of charges of lewd behaviour in Los Angeles. He was accused of masturbating in his car in front of a day care centre.
Here's the thing-there has been absolutely no mention of the family's religion in news reporting.
The mother's name is Lela Tabidze and the father's name is Vakhtang Makniashvili.
These are Muslim names. They come from an area of Georgia that has a relatively big Muslim population. [PLEASE SEE UPDATE-I STAND CORRECTED ON THE LAST NAMES]
Is it not at least possible that Miriam (Maryam) was reunited with her parents, but too uppity for their possibly conservative previous household order?
Is it possible that she behaved in a way that 'shamed' the family?
The police are absolutely silent about their religion. I for one, do not think that this angle can be ruled out.
Plus, if you look at the footage of the parents, they look oddly detached. Obviously, everyone is innocent until proven guilty.
Something about this story absolutely, and totally reeks and is setting off my creepy radar.
What do you think? Is the Toronto police force just keeping its cards close to its chest while they investigate the family, or is there a deliberate attempt to obfuscate the honour murder angle?
I think more light needs to be shed on this story.
UPDATE 1: A reader comments that their names are of Eastern Christian origin. I've just done some more research-anda that appears to be the case. However, Maryam and Lela are certainly Muslim names. I could be completely off about the Muslim angle-but I definitely think there is more to the story.
