I'm trying to do the same thing-focus on waking up with a new song every day in my head.
Truth be told, for an eternal optimist like myself, I was having a bit of a dark week, trying to deal with one child's health problem, getting super-emotionally neurotic about an on-line argument with total strangers (yes-I realize this is crazy, but likely a projection), and then being subjected to the usual balance of domestic bliss and domestic torment.
I had some anxiety-it happens a few times a year.
The usual stuff.
It seemed to be coming from all directions-children, spouse, my mother-the works.
I talked out a lot of it with a friend, who reminded me that developing a tougher skin about things is just like developing any other kind of callous, it takes time. She also wisely reminded me to think about who my friends are and who my enemies are.
I actually have always prided myself on the people who literally get sick when they see me, and turn green and want to vomit-and the people that I count as my truly good friends and comrades-in-arms (you all know who you are).
I started to feel better. I also took a step to put the real music back into my life.
I used to play bass guitar and acoustic bass and sing in a jazz choir. I also had a band in university. That really is what made me most joyful, until the joys of getting married, and starting a family.
So, I think I have found an accompanist and the plan is to meet once a week to 'rehearse' with the eventual goal of hitting some amateur jazz nights around town.
I also got a remarkable prop-up from my brother, who told me the following story.
A Jewish grandmother is walking along the beach with her grandchild when a huge, tsunami-like wave sweeps the child into the sea.
The grandmother doesn't know how to swim, so she begs G-d to save her grandchild.
All of the sudden, another huge wave burps up the child onto the beach.
The grandmother says thank you, G-d, thank you G-d, then pauses-looks up at the sky and says "Ummm, G-d...he had a hat..."
It felt like a "he had a hat" kind of week.
But it's passing, and I'm laughing about it now.
All just a reminder to myself to listen to the music, make the music and forget about the hat, and anyone who 'asks me for the hat' so to speak.

From A-Student to Slut
All it takes is a stupid, permissive parent and you, too can sluttify your daughters in a few quick months....
I'll share a parenting story with you. In my humble opinion (NOT), this is the way to do it:
About a month ago, my daughter tried to go to a party with a dress that was too short, it had been given to her 2 years ago when it fit properly (I learned this post-facto).
To make a long story short, I told her to either put tights on, change her clothes or fuggetabout going to the party.
Three choices.
She screamed and had a tantrum, saying that I had Wrecked Her Evening! That because of me she Didn't Want to Go Anymore!! She was all crumpled in a little ball, crying, etc...
I said I couldn't care less, and that she could salvage her evening by making a choice, and that no daughter of mine was going anywhere half naked. (LOL)
Guess what-she put tights on, cleaned herself up and calmed down.
Personal modesty is important as is good taste.
Like my Dad says "they cry now, or you cry later".
I'd rather take my lumps now.
The stakes are too high later.

Well, I like to push back when I can.
For example, a co-worker asked me if a certain date was OK for our "holiday" party.
I said "Oh, f&ck the "holiday" party, it's Christmas-I'm not coming unless it's a Christmas party."
Does it really need to take the obnoxious, Jewish mother in the office to make sure that we have a damned Christmas party?
I guess it does-how pathetic is that?
I tend not to brooch subjects that I know send liberal colleagues into spastic, apoplectic fits. However, if I am asked my opinion about something, I tell the truth.
A colleague lamented to me that there weren't more women and 'people of colour' on a certain project that we were working on.
I promptly replied that we have to deal with reality. The reason that there weren't more women or 'people of colour' on the project is because there aren't a lot of them working in the field. Maybe more will in the future, but that ain't the case right now.
Then, much to their chagrin, I pointed out that by choosing women, or 'people of colour' for the project that were junior in the field, and not actually qualified, we would be guilty of reverse racism and tokenism-expecting far less from the very people we purport to care about advancing.
So screw that.

I have a disabled child.
That means that unfortunately I have to be in touch with various levels of government bureaucracy and about half a dozen kinds of "HELPY" people to "HELP" us with his needs.
Some of these para-medical professionals are lovely people, but I reserve my disdain for social workers.
Seriously, I hate them. Useless, patronizing moronic bunch.
But the scary thing about them is how much power they have. And, many of them are bullies who love to abuse power. With one phone call, they can make a lot of trouble-even have your children taken away from you.
That's why I refuse to give permission for my normal kids to be seen 'informally', and 'only if necessary' by the crackpot 'team' of social worker/helpy people at their schools.
A word of advice: if the HELPY PEOPLE come knocking at your door-make them go away. Do whatever you can to make them disappear from your life.

This story hit the press earlier this week, and I admit to having a mental "la la la can't hear you kind of reaction".
The last time I did that when a gay, former colleague tried to freak me out by bringing me a souvenir from the Gay Pride parade, thinking that he could freak me out.

Anyway, now that there is a photo of the 10 year old mother, with her 13 year old COUSIN on the intertoobies, I thought I should just post it with the message that YES OUR CULTURE IS SUPERIOR.
Count backwards-nine year old girls having sex? That's just not OK.
Interestingly, we can talk about it not being OK for 9 year old Romanian girls to be having sex with their cousins with their parents approval (I'm throwing up a little in my mouth as I type this), but we can't talk about Mohammad and his little darling wife, Aisha.

For a generally very smart group of people, Jews can sometimes be very stupid.
For some reason, we-the People of the Book, can win more Nobel Prizes than is statistically probably given our small numbers, but some of us are unable to understand when anti-Semites are just out to yank our cranks. Earlier this week, the National Post published an article by Adbusters co-founder and publisher Kalle Lasn titled “A Tale of Two Ghettos”.
The folks at Adbusters have been harping on the Jews as Nazis thing for a number of years, so this is nothing new. Therefore, when I saw the latest round on-line, I yawned.
When I saw the article in the Post, I immediately said to friends “this was only published to trigger a tsunami of letters”, and of course I was right.
The letters page reflected a wide variety of reactions from various segments of the Canadian population. There was the elegant testimony of a Holocaust survivor whom I have personally heard speak. There was the Polish academic who questioned the author’s grasp of basic historical facts. And of course, there was the predictable form-letter response from an established Jewish community organization.
By trotting out their silly and despicable ‘Jews are Nazis’ meme, the folks at Adbusters scored several avoidable victories. First, they managed to get their name and their publication onto the public radar and all over the internet-lots more hits and more awareness of their product (for free).
This is called earned PR. Without paying for an ad, they got into your mind and onto your daily newspaper. But perhaps more importantly, they got under your skin.
So, Jews-I’m telling you, you have to buck up and ignore assaults such as these in the future. The typical Jew-hater nowadays comes in a couple of main forms. The most virulent are the garden variety jihadis, and their good friends, the green-red coalition of Marxist-socialists.
They hate us! To paraphrase actress Sally Field, “They hate us! They really, really hate us!”.
The problem is that even these pathological Jew-haters know that it is not cool to be overtly anti-Jew in a post-Holocaust world. The Holocaust presents them with strategic challenges. If you are an antisemite, what do you do about a problem like the Holocaust? Easy! You can deny it, or minimize it (note: has not worked particularly well for David Irving, or Mahmoud Ahmedinejad, but turned Ernst Zundel into a celebrity). But the very best, best thing that anti-semites can try to do with the Holocaust is try to make us Jews the “real” Nazis.
They have figured out that few things cause Jews more pain than this odious comparison, so that’s what they like to do.
They used the “Zionism is Racism” card for a while. That was pretty painful, but even the UN rescinded that one.
The main things that Jew-haters can do nowadays is direct their hostility toward Israel (economic, political, material and spiritual/intellectual support of terrorists), or use more ‘subtle’ tools to get under our skin. The main tools, designed for maximum Jewish agony and emotional pain are that Jews are Nazis, that Palestinians are the real Jews and that Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine/the Palestinians.
Their additional victories are getting leftist Jews to buy into this nonsense.
My suggestion would be to try not to be outraged by these assaults, but rather to ignore them and to put Jewish and philo-semitic non-Jewish brains and energy into the things we can control.
We can’t control or change the Judenhaas in these folks (the "fight hate" approach).
Let us instead focus on supporting Holocaust survivors living the last years of their life in comfort and dignity, supporting Holocaust education and other, regular Jewish traditions like doing good deeds, giving Tzedakah, bringing light unto the nations, and raising moral, proud, serious Jewish children.
Nothing pisses of antisemites more than us uppity Jews refusing to die, and refusing to play by their rules.
So let’s do just that.

Controversial, Outspoken Author Fights Municipality Banality

Steynopalooza was really a blast.
One of the things that I love about Steyn is the way that he is able to turn lefty lemons into joyful, rightwing, Islamophobic lemonade!
The municipality of London, Ontario thought they could 'avoid controvery' as Steyn noted-by canceling his venue contract, ("what-me worry??") and we all ended up at a bigger, more fabulous venue.
The squishy, impotent London Free Press loaded up their arsenal of boring, stupid adjectives and now Steyn has added "Controversial, Outspoken Author" to his long list of professional achievements.
He celebrates their stupidity, and takes their cluelessness to a new level of enjoyment for his many fans. How many people do you know who can do that?
This is a lover of life. What a treat.
I will update this later this morning-most of us got very little sleep and are still processing the whole fun night.
Steyn closed with a rousing call for people to stop enabling incremental grabs at our freedom, and emphasized that he is not willing to live in fear. And, he reiterated that if the jihadi murderers think that they can bring us down, or threaten us into silence or kill the infides then they are bloody well going to have to kill us all!
So there! Steyn's way of telling terrorists and their disgusting radical feminist, Marxist and lefty enablers to eff off is pretty polite-even the clever, avoidance-of-controversy fat cat bureaucrats at the Municipality of London might not even get it.
