Is anyone surprised that this sorry excuse of a man--I hang my head in shame at having to share the same sex with him--is a socialist? These guys all seem to think that their "politically correct" socio-economic-historical views excuse a multitude of--literally!--sins, under the "great men have great needs" mitigation. I am put in mind of Genrikh Yagoda, head of Stalin's secret police during the height of the Terror, and his successor, Lavrenti Beria. They both shared the charming habit of cruising Moscow's streets in their Zil limousines, looking for attractive women pedestrians, whom they would order their bodyguards to seize and turn over to the Great Man for . . . well, I don't have to draw a picture. The hapless woman would then be unceremoniously dumped back out on the sidewalk, with a warning to keep quiet or else. Great men think alike, apparently . . . right, Al Gore?

Speaking of great men having great needs--and I do not intend to trivialize the poor chambermaid's harrowing experience--I also found the $3,000 per day rent for Mr. IMF Chief's suite unsurprising. These "servants of the people" generally believe in serving themselves--they're people too, right?--well and ahead of anyone else.

Well, the Soviet people had Yagoda and Beria thrust onto them without their consent, but Mr. Gore was elected and M Strauss-Kahn was appointed by a consortium of nominally democratic countries. What's our excuse?

I have commented on this before on Conservative's blog, but here it goes again anyway. The historical Shoah provides a convenient object for the displacement of our moral indignation, because voicing outrage over events that ended in May, 1945, and which we can now do nothing to rectify is both safe and convenient; the analogy I like to use is "kicking the dread bandit's body after somebody else has done the dirty and dangerous work of killing him and bringing his sorry carcass down from the hills." Doing something about the plight of the many Holtzbergs and Fogels (not all of whom are Jewish, incidentally--look at the murderous attacks being suffered by Christians wherever adherents of the "Religion of Peace" predominate) who populate the here-and-now is at the least inconvenient, and perhaps even dangerous.
