Why Do People Hate Sarah Palin?
Here are some thoughts from a cyberpal who goes by the name of Lucius Septimius-a very smart guy.
There was a discussion about why people hate Sarah Palin so much, and Lu dashed off this incredibly brilliant mini op-ed and he gave me permission to republish it here.
It is jam-packed with astute observations-articulating what so many of us know and feel instinctively, just what excellent writing should be.

Why Hate Sarah Palin?

The hatred directed against Palin is a very good example of what Krauthamer has labeled "oikophobia" -- fear of the ordinary. It's of a piece with the comment on Maher's show about people from Kansas having sloped foreheads, or Katie Couric's remark about the empty fly-over country.
There is a Talking Heads song where David Byrne describes looking out the window of the airplane and seeing ordinary people doing ordinary thing, cooking out, playing with their kids, and ends by saying "I wouldn't live like that if you paid me."
So what's the alternative? A former colleague of mine summed it up -- "decadence." Constant activity, constant agitation, constant stimulus. Of course it was exhausting, and destructive, both of self and others. I remember early on in our courtship, my wife and I were invited to a party at his apartment -- he was trying to convince us to join he and a student in a foursome, in which neither of us had any interest. As it turned out, his "decadent" party was a total flop. No one was interested in descending to his depths. They wanted to have some food, drink a glass or two of wine, laugh ... and then go home and sleep in their own beds. In the aftermath I said "so now I know what 'decadence' means ... it means 'lame'.'"
It's here, I think, where much of the leftist hatred of Sarah Palin and other conservatives -- especially conservative women -- has its foundation. The sort of typical media/entertainment lefties are people who are obviously deeply troubled, deeply insecure, and just not happy in their skins. They learn early on to avoid facing their own deeper ghosts through a life of constant activity -- constant motion -- endless, ceaseless stimulus.
Living in a place like NY it's easy to maintain -- something is always going on, though I've noticed that when one goes to the more plebeian areas of Queens, for example, life is relatively calm. People who have to lunch at the Stanhope and then have cocktails at the Four Seasons don't have time to make little gardens with statues of St. Francis in the front of their houses like one sees in Astoria.
The counterposition of St. Francis and the high-class bar points to the emptiness, the utter soullessness of the life of the self-appointed elite. They live a life of constant pleasure -- of the body, sometimes of the mind -- but it cannot fill the psychic gap in their lives, the yawning nothingness that consumes them when they pause for a minute to look deeply in the mirror sans make-up, sans tailored suit, sans prozac, sans valium, in the harsh light of morning.
Sarah Palin represents for them the entire mass of people who live in a cultural wilderness that stretches from the Delaware river to the Coastal Range of California. These are people who are happy.
They live in small towns where there is no Zabar's or Russian Tea Room. They go to church and sit on their behinds on hard pews and listen to sermons about sin and hope that focus not on the great and major issues of the day, but on the simple virtues of friendship, family, and kindness.
They don't buy clothes at fancy boutiques. They have yards that they tend instead of going to swank bistros all night. And they are content.
The liberal elitists cannot comprehend this.
So they hurl insults -- middle America is stupid, religious people are stupid, conservatives are stupid. And when that isn't enough to satisfy their deep distaste, they call them racist, homophobes, etc. The worst derision is reserved for the women of Middle America. How dare they get married, stay home, have families, and not live like Samantha Jones??
(A special contempt is reserved for Sarah Palin. Not only did she not have an abortion, she didn't insist her daughther have one. And she has the nerve to call herself a "woman", fume the ladies of NOW).
At the root of this hatred (and, frankly, of all genuine hatred I'd say) is envy. They are envious of the dopey happiness, the simple joy in life of ordinary folk.
They make fun of them, call them names, dismiss them, even construct entire mythical pathologies to make sure that these people cannot be considered "really" happy, but at the end of the day, weighed down by hours of running on the wheel attempting to avoid their own emptiness and insecurity they are faced with the ugly truth: all their education, culture, entertainment, shoes, drinks, psychiatriasts, good liberal world views, libidinal gymnastics notwithstanding, they are miserable. And then they seen the poor beknighted slobs of flyover country in cheap jeans, sneakers, and t-shirts from WalMart smiling and waving flags on green fields in the light of day, and they HATE THEM.
Hannah Arendt noted that constant motion is a central theme of Totalitarianism. It provides a way for people to keep moving, keep active and never have time to realize what they are doing or the depth of the evil they are enmeshed in -- they're too busy to see it. This is what the left do in their own lives -- they are their own dictators.
Why do they hate Sarah Palin?
Because she is free.
And they cannot be.
Egypt: The Victorious Islamists
I'm not comfortable with "Islamists", it's really more like "Egypt: The Victory of Islam". But anyway, this is a chilling article about Egypt, and I can't really understand how it got past the moonbat censors at the NY Times Review of Books.
The writer was invited to a long meeting of Salafis and non-Salfis, after which a very interesting exchange took place:
"After the meeting, one of the Salafist wives approached me, inviting me to a women-only gathering at her house."
“You’re so young,” another said, before proceeding to explain how she slowly converted from being uncovered to wearing a full-face veil."
“It just takes time,” she said reassuringly."
“You get used to it.”
That seems to me the ultimate summary of sharia creep into our lives, or nanny state/leftist interference in our lives. Don't worry-feel reassured, it just takes time and 'you'll get used to it'.
So many people in the Western world have just 'gotten used to' the erosion of freedom, instead of dedicating themselves with that energy to fighting the enemy.
We take our shoes off like sheep at airports, we allow cancer-stricken grandmothers to be stripped of their last remaining shreds of dignity and our children to be manhandled, our disabled children's toys taken away.
We surrender the jokes that make us laugh, or discussing in public our religious beliefs for fear of offending others.

Is that how we want to live?
In hospitals, we allow policies set by mindless, unskilled mandarins determine how much our lives are worth.
In schools, we allow our children to be indoctrinated and groomed by amoral Marxists.

Book Review: The Next Wave: On the Hunt For Al Qaeda's American Recruits, By Catherine Herridge
I was asked by Random House if I would like to review The Next Wave: On the Hunt for Al Qaeda's American Recruits, by Catherine Herridge, on my blog-it sounded right up my alley so I said sure. It’s a relatively quick read.
I was encouraged at the start of the book where the author aptly points out that Khalid Sheikh Mohammad “understands us better than we understand him-he knows that whatever he says will be reported around the world”.
This indicated to me that the writer understands that a major part of our problem is that Islamic terrorists understand our mentality much more than we are willing or able to face theirs.
There are other indications in the book that the author ‘get’s the threat. She sees clearly that the 9/11 highjackers were sent to kill us and ‘took advantage of our hospitality, our lack of rules and our bureaucratic system’.
The body of the book describes that exact bureaucratic bungling, mixed with anecdotes about and interviews with the individual security experts, sources and agents who are intimately involved in putting together clues about homegrown Islamic terrorists and monitoring overseas clues. There are descriptions of the egregious visa screw ups, forged documents, the springing of suspects, and these are all utterly enraging elements of the story. She also describes the current efforts to recruit native Americans to the jihadist cause-particularly those who would not otherwise arouse suspicion (white, female, etc..).
Unfortunately, the book drags a bit with its singular focus on the story of the pursuit of Islamic radical Anwar al-Awlaki. It also breaks no new ground in describing the internet as the terrorist’s best friend for recruitment, communication and training purposes.
While a few terrorism oriented web sites are mentioned in passing (such as MEMRI), there is no mention of many other volunteer web sites where freelance freedom lovers translate documents, monitor jihadist web sites and relentlessly devote their time to taking down jihadi web sites, Facebook pages, Yahoo groups and YouTube accounts.
If it’s "news" to anyone that the internet is a jihadi tool, then they are really clueless and in need of a much better education on terrorism.
The Next Wave provides some interesting information about a particular case study, but doesn’t provide that one compelling summary knock-out message that resonates with the reader or a specific call to action for the American public.
The “next” wave is actually something that we westerners cannot even imagine in our worst nightmares because we don’t think like our enemies yet-and maybe never will. The internet is yesterday’s wave.
The moral of this story is that we need the best and brightest focused on imagining the nightmare scenarios that breed freely and gleefully in the jihadist’s mind and never underestimate their desire to destroy us.
Herridge’s book provides a useful, though not fully comprehensive window into the current situation, and the denial that surrounds us daily-denial and political correctness that will eventually kill more of us on a scale of unimaginable magnitude.

I was reading Mark Steyn's piece about "Hate Couture" and he mentions my good friend scaramouche's take on "Hate Speech".
We need a new organization-yes there aren't enough Jewish organizations in the world. I propose: Jews for "Hate" Speech.
Kikes for Hate Speech?
See, here is the thing. It can never end well when a state insists upon what is acceptable for human beings to think and feel, and try to legislate human emotion. What is the "state" anyway? A bunch of people entrusted with our tax money, whose power over our lives should be very limited and viewed always with suspicion and with appropriate checks and balances for potential abuses.
Who are the people attracted to government? To "civil service", to "public service"-many people with good intentions of course, and many honourable folks. But there are many others who delight in a career of spending other people's money and enforcing their (usually leftist) ideals upon a population held hostage.
Jews still don't get that the "state" cannot be trusted-even in democracies to look out for our interests and safety.
Let's say I'm a Jew...I'm in a dark alley in some European Muslim slum (why-who knows-just bare with me). So, I'm walking along in Malmo, or Paris, and a Muslim Yoot named Mohammad Achmad Mohammad Mohammad starts shrieking at me that I am a dirty slut infidel for not wearing a hijab in Dar al Islam and that I deserve to be raped and killed. His eyes are bulging out of his head and his veins are throbbing in his neck.
All of the sudden, a guardian angel appears out of nowhere to help me. My angel wants to help me save my life and gives me a choice of two tools. I can have a gun, or I can have some really, really well-written and well-intentioned copies of my country's hate speech laws.
If I am a dumb, liberal, assimilated Jew-I'm gonna choose the hate speech laws! I'm going to continue to pick lofty ideas with no security, and I'm gonna die-just like Theo Van Gough, as blood gushes out of my neck, asking if we please, couldn't we please just talk it all over?
The State of Israel, fortunately-picks the gun.
I personally like my hatred straight up with no olives.
I want to hear it right to my face. I don't want the state-a collection of some honourable people and some people who simply think they are smarter than me, and better than me, and more able to raise my children than me-to be telling me what to think, or what is funny.
It's really a very, very short walk from 'your children are fat', to 'your children are illegally overweight according to by-law 458394 and we are taking them away from you'.
It's an even shorter walk from 'that joke OFFENDS me' to serving time in jail for unfunny, or 'offensive' humour.
Thoughts are being criminalized. Most people don't even realize the extent to which they self-censor because of the thought police already.
It makes us a culture of p&ssies-unable to crack a joke about Jews, gays, blacks, Asians, Italians, Pakistanis-whatever.
This is what the gloomy left wants from us.
I refuse to live like that.
Our personal liberty is being eroded every single day by people who do not want to have individual freedom, and most certainly do not deserve it.
In the city of Toronto, parents are not allowed to pull their children out of "lessons" where pro-homosexual 'curricula' is presented.
In other words, parents are unable to refuse to have their children groomed for sexual predators.
In England, an autistic son was taken into "care"(how's that for a government euphemism) against his father's wishes because he was deemed by a brain-dead, half wit social worker to be troublesome and needing of state "care".
It took the Dad over a year to get his son back.
Rage against this!
Bottom line: I would rather have a sissy, Euroweenie faggot fashion designer fairy with a pathetic peach fuzz mustache tell me that he wants to shove me in an oven and dreams of felating Hitler, than a dimwitted Canadian or American government employee tell me how to raise my children or that my fag, kike, nigger, chink or Paki jokes can land me in prison or get me hit with a fine or get my kids taken away from me because they have a rubber stamp and plenty of time on their hands to cause trouble.

I was listening to Mark Steyn today talk about how the terrorists have, in fact, won because (among many other reasons) TSA employees are allowed to grope people freely, confiscate the toys of mentally handicapped people and 'pat-down' babies.

I quite agree.
Here is another sign of the decline of America-when a bone headed government employee can feel completely secure that he or she will remain employed after giving a $500 fine to the parents of children selling lemonade for pediatric cancer research.

You know what breeds crime? Low life parents who don't stick around to teach their kids morality. So instead of saying-hey there are certain communities that tend to culture more crime-like Jamaicans with the local drug trade, etc...the mainstream elites always give an economic reason instead of a morally based explanation.
And, I'll tell you why they do that. Because they don't believe in a real G-d. Their idea of the divine is money. So-they believe that if you throw the money divinity at something, of course it will get better. All external, socialist "fixes" for a profound lack of morality and individual responsibility.

I find it exhausting to try and explain it over and over again, but that's the basic gist of it.
That does not make it forgivable or rational, by the way-it's just the explanation.
Some people evolve out of it, or are gradually deprogrammed by nasty awful things like "facts".
But this is a condition that will not go away.
These people need to be shunned, denounced etc. and we need to keep repeating the facts that annoy them so much. We will educate some, not all, and we will prevail.
