Very Weird "Free Speech Zones" Planned For Vancouver Olympics

It's pretty pathetic that in Canada, in our typically anal-retentive manner, our bureaucrats busy themselves with planning out "free speech zones" - whatever that is supposed to mean.

Our Charter of Rights says that all of Canada is a free speech zone. Well, it says that on paper. But facts, schmacts. In reality, there are many Canadians who have been severly tested, and punished for speaking their mind on 'controversial' issues.

This bit from the article is positively Orwellian. See if you can understand what it means:

"Chris Brumwell, a Vanoc spokesman, said the schedule is "a planning document used by our overlay team to gather and determine functional requirements at each venue."

"He said the idea of free speech zones is not new. "The concept of safe assembly zones has always been part of the inner-city inclusivity commitments from the bid days, and practical planning began as the venue plans were finalized," he said.

"Allan did not know when the public would be shown the locations, nor could she say who will pay for them."
