Great News: New Freaky Deaky Muslim Swim Wear Available in Oz

An Australian swim teacher noticed that immigrant women were kind of, well, you know-kind of CHOKING and gasping for air when they were taking swimming lessons. So, instead of insisting that they take off their hijabs in the water-heaven forbid we offend immigrant sensibilities even if it puts them at risk of drowning and stuff-she invents a new swim cap hijab thingy.

Fantastic.

"Lifesaving services in Australia say recently arrived migrants have a much higher risk of drowning, and are trying to encourage more people from different cultural backgrounds (yah-I'm sure there are many, many cultures to which this applies) to participate in water education programs."

This is the perfect example of how not to work with immigrants. Host society should not be bending to immigrants-immigrants need to accommodate to host society's norms.

What kind of people would prefer their women to drown, rather than have their hair exposed in a swimming class? Are these really the kinds of immigrants that we really want in the first world?

Just a reminder what can happen with excessive accommodation that ignores safety. This woman is dead-but at least she remained modest, right?
