We probably have a very liberal judge here, who made a decision based on a variety of factors that would, once explained, defy common sense and perhaps make your head explode.
Somewhere along the way, there's probably at least contradictory psychiatric reports, because that's what the Law in the US is all about now: everybody's precious self-esteem.
At least one of these psychiatrists probably advanced the theory that any woman who could name her child 'Bud' is probably an unfit mother. Everyone knows the really hip and happenin' Moms name their children Dylan, Justin, Jaden and Muhammad.
I would hazard to guess that this jurist probably graduated in the bottom third (perhaps even bottom fifth) of her class, hence why she's a Family Court judge on the public payroll and not an attorney making a sh*tload of money practicing law privately.
In this country, vis-a-vis the legal system;
Those that can, Do.
Those that can't, Become Judges.
And those who can't even do that, Run for Congress, and write the Laws bass-ackwards.
As this took place in the South (I once lived in North Carolina, but am a Native New yorker) do not be surprised if hubby's family isn't 'dialed-in' with the local community (i.e. right church, right pedigree, right fraternity and school connections, right politicians in Daddy's Old Money pocket, right contacts in the local Klan, Scotch-Irish roots going back to Plantation Days).
