I remember looking up _perspicacious_ in the _World Book Dictionary_ --do they still publish it?--when I was about 13 years old, after first coming across it in one of Taylor Caldwell's historical novels. It became my favorite word for several weeks after that; I took every reasonable (and unreasonable) opportunity to use it in my schoolwork, no doubt to the amusement and also possibly the exasperation of my teachers.
