We Need Truth Tellers, Not Luftmensches

This is a nice piece that describes liberal Jewish utopianism. The writer translates luftmensches as 'space cadets', which kind of does the trick but it's also just 'dreamers'-utopian dreamers, living among imaginary fluffy clouds and rainbows.

I've actually never thought of Chagall in this context, but it certainly makes sense to me.

And we do need more truth tellers, of course-but that doesn't really help people who don't want to see the reality in front of them.

There were Jews (and gentiles) who escaped Nazi custody and concentration camps and went back to warn people about the dangers, but nobody would believe them.

In Elie Weisel's "Night", he describes a man who escaped, and came back to the village and was considered a raving, lunatic fool.

Some people do come around, but liberalism is the official religion of the luftmensch, and nothing can break that mentality without the will of the dreamer to step into reality and away from the clouds.
