Those would presumably the daughters who ended up somehow dead in the waters of the Kingston Locks, having expressed the endearing parental sentiment that him and his wife hope that the Devil "shit on their graves".
I suppose that sounds MUCH more sympathetic in Dari.
This testimony is kind of like the kid who kills his parents and weeps at his trial that things are so difficult for him, and people should really pity him because he is an orphan.
