Lund, if you will recall is the heterosexual friend of homosexuals who was so offended, and feels that homosexuals were so badly hurt by a pastor's letter that he needed to file a human rights complaint on their weak, persecuted behalves. No gay person actually asked him to do so-he just was channeling the collective hurt and vulnerability of the entire gay community through his very own heterosexual, wackademic self.

In fact, there were more gay organizations who-despite their disagreement with the pastor about his views on homosexuality-came to his defense.

They understood that the state should not be in the business of policing "offensive" speech.

If the thought police came for the white Christians-then they could-and would come after contentious gay material, too. (Although this is a less likely scenario in Canada-certain groups are rarely pursued.)

Anyway, on on March 26, Lund filed an appeal based on what he views as Justice Wilson's "problematic" ruling, which factors in the intention of an individual writing hateful comments while human rights law focuses on the effect of such a publication.

Here is the super sensitive professor again. He is contemptuous of the judge that disagrees with him.

"I think that ruling sets a really unreasonably high limit on hate speech. Really, it's about the kind of communities we want to live in and the poisoning of the public discourse, especially in regard to vulnerable groups who already experience a high degree of hatred and discrimination," Lund said.

Let me translate that from sissy-totalitarianspeak into English: That dorky judge ruled with the hatemongers, so I am going to try to lawfare this one back into the public view. Those white, fundamentalist Christians are not going to be able to say what they want if I have anything to say about it.

Maybe Daryl should let the gay community speak for itself?

A Gay Activist Who Gets Free Speech

This is a refreshing approach.

It goes to show that there are a lot of people who really do 'get it' when it comes to free speech.

Free speech is about having to hear-not agree-with the people whose ideas you find insulting, repugnant and offensive.

Any kind of artificial "shelter" from free speech is an intrusion on personal freedom.

Where free speech ventures into actual threats-the law takes over.

Where free speech creeps toward libel or slander, there are provisions in the law.

The entire "free speech" debate has evolved into a crusade to have difference of opinions criminalized in supposedly civilized nations.

Some of us know where those enlightened paths led us throughout history.

It simply should not be impossible to have a political, or religious disagreement in a "civilized" Western country without fear of political persecution and financial ruin.
