A Fight Against Modern Barbarity
I'm glad she's writing about it-but really, they should not be called "honour killings". It makes it so sterile and actually implies that there is a real issue of "honour" involved in the killings.
We need to either use "scare quotes" when we talk about this, or just call them Islamic (or Sikh as the case often is in the UK) "honour" murders.

Way to Go Pelham Ontario
There are questions about the motives...hmmm...could it be Teh Zhooooooooos? Just wanting to make Muslims look bad again, huh? Just wanting to blame all Muslims for a clear case of generic, domestic violence?
Damn those dastardly joooooooos.
"Alia Hogben, executive director of the Canadian Council of Muslim Women, is happy that a town is remembering Parvez. "But I have some difficulty with what they are trying to say in the inscription. Maybe they are trying to raise questions but I'm not quite sure (the inscription) reflects her death."
"Parvez's death remains tragic for a number of reasons, said Hogben. "It shows violence against women and girls in all cultures and it also shows the problems and difficulties that occur in recently arrived immigrant families."
Yep, every single culture has a problem with fathers murdering their daughters over family honour. For sure. And every immigrant community has the same issue-sons collaborating with fathers in killing female family members because of their rejection of religious attire and orthodox ways.
Good on small town Ontario for not forgetting a young girl tragically murdered because of a barbarian shame/honour culture for simply wanting to live free.

Islamic "Honour" Murders in Canada: Canada Yawns
This was the front page story in the National Post today.
It's funny though. I read through the story a few times, and there was this word missing: Muslim. We get this instead: "Although Mr. Sadiqi came to Canada when he was very young, he had a "profound attachment" to his heritage, shaping his views of relationships between men and women, Mr. Moors said. The Crown intends to lead expert testimony regarding honour killings, he said."
What heritage? Janism? Wikka? Amish?
