Stop the Presses!

Former Liberal member of parliament (perhaps he is now officially a former liberal, small "l" as well?) says that political correctness and fake multiculturalism is screwing up Canada!

Wow.

"Ujjal Dosanjh, a former Liberal cabinet minister and onetime B.C. premier, says Sikh extremism is on the rise in some parts of the country, and blamed, in part, “politically correct” Canadians who let it happen in the name of diversity"

Furthermore: Meanwhile, Mr. Dosanjh blamed what he described as Canada’s polite brand of multiculturalism for giving extremists the space to nurture old grudges brought from their homelands. At the same time, Canada has failed to instill its own values on new immigrants."

The whole article is worth reading.

I don't, however agree with his conclusion: "We should stop being politically correct and have a debate."

We should stop being politically correct, and not bother to 'debate' the issue with morons. Less talk, more action.

Getting the Burkha Ban Totally Wrong

I was just reading this piece by Paul Berton in the London Free Press, and I have to say-he totally misses the point.

He is posing as a freedom loving person, saying that the reason women should be "allowed" to wear body bags is because we can't have government telling us what to wear.

This is a ridiculous line of argument. There are plenty of laws, or I guess they are by-laws that determine what we can wear. It's illegal to walk around butt naked-in case he hasn't noticed.

The main point of the burkha ban is that women in these situations do not get a choice. Women, right here in Canada and in other parts of the civilized, Western world have been murdered by their own family members for "choosing" not to cover themselves.

And that is why it's particularly infuriating to see Mr. Berton make the full blown, moral equivalency argument in his quest to keep Muslim women covered up from head to toe, in one of the most demoralizing, and dehumanizing costumes ever worn by human beings in history.

"Telling women what they must not wear is just as bad as telling them what they must wear. It is replacing one form of control with another. Both are unacceptable."

"Both government and community groups who feel as Siddiqui does should work harder and do more to educate society, promote gender equity and personal freedoms and support Muslim women -- and men -- who oppose the practice. Surely that is the better (and the Canadian) way."

Did you get that? "Both" are wrong. We, the democratic, freedom loving, liberty-seeking men and women of the free world are the same as the barbaric culture that stuffs women into full length prisons.

Only an idiot liberal could suggest that "education" is the way to deal with this.

The "Canadian way" has been demonstrated by this writer: not taking a stand, being wishy washy and not wanting to offend anyone's exquisite ethnic sensibilities.

The only hope is a more aggressive containment plan, and more close scrutiny and ultimately-rejection-of potential immigrants who subscribe to the more fanatic expressions of Islamic practice with respect to women.
