Empty Symbolism on Hate Crimes
"The logic behind the proposed measure is hard to follow. Says sponsoring Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.), "No members of society -- none -- deserve to be victims of a violent crime because of their race, their religion, their ethnic background, their disability, their gender, their gender identity, or their sexual orientation." Which raises the question: Who exactly does deserve to be the victim of a violent crime?"(certainly not Mary Jo Kopechne but I digress..)

I feel that it as we are coming up to the 40th anniversary of the world record underwater rescue attempt by the Chappaquiddick kid, we should recognise this great hero instead of reviling him.His ( unsuccesful) attempt will go down in history with the likes of the hero of Marathon or Paul Revere.
