The Spate of Muslim Female Drownings in Eastern Ontario

Much is being written about the curious and tragic drownings of Muslim women in eastern Ontario. Something that Mark Steyn is calling statistically highly unlikely.

Scaramouche thinks there is something weird about the Kingston drownings-and so do I.

Here's what I found interesting, burried in the story in the National Post.

"Chief Liu said the family, originally from Pakistan, travelled from their home in Toronto to Gananoque on Friday. They had planned to go on a boat tour of the Thousands Islands on Saturday, but never made it."

"He said the girls were dressed for swimming in a manner that is "consistent with the Muslim tradition." That means the children were wearing long tights and T-shirts, but Chief Liu said the clothing would not have contributed to the drowning. He could not say if the mother was dressed to go swimming. "

I think it's very odd that the female members of this Pakistani family-who were all non-swimmers, went to the swimming pool dressed in 'tradtional Muslim clothes'-and if they had on scarves and extra clothes-you're telling me that that wouldn't have weighed them even further?

How on earth could this have happened? The wife tells the husband, hey-I'm taking the girls for a "swim" even though none of us can swim and there is no lifeguard at the pool?

That is SUICIDAL behaviour for non-swimmers, or perhaps HOMICIDAL behaviour for someone suggesting the swim.

This kind of reminds me of the phenomenon in Turkey, where girls are 'encouraged' to commit suicide because the family doesn't want the dad, brother or male cousin to rot in jail for doing the "honour" murders.

It's also kind of like Saudicide: suicide by a bullet to the back of the head.

It's a creepy story, and I suspect we will never find out the truth.
