Kathy says it better than I ever could, and includes a great 2009 piece by Mark Steyn which includes all of the inconvenient truths about the Montreal massacre.

I will not wear a white rose, or any other obnoxious paraphanalia that contributes to the atmosphere of denial about the real facts of this case.

A Muslim man went on a shooting rampage in Montreal, and no man in the room defended any of the women who were there.

Apparently, amongst the only men in North America who recognize evil and are willing and able to sacrifice their lives for others are elderly Israeli Holocaust survivors.

Such is life now, such is our society.

A big part of the problem with the American fiscal nightmare known as its economy is that the liberal elite, now governing the country, is in complete denial about the situation.

They continue to insist that it's no big deal that they are speaking in the language of trillions of debt, or that China may well own the European economy in a matter of months and that there just is no money left to run the country.

It's not a pretty scene.

This article, refreshingly, walks people through the reality of the situation.

Americans have to wean off big government "entitlement" programs-but no politician, no party has the guts to make people down that medicine. Americans-the ultimate lovers of freedom and individual responsibility and liberty, keep wanting to take a government spoonful of sugar with every day of life.

Another inconvenient fact:

"What separates the United States and Europe is that (so far) we haven't suffered a backlash from bond markets."

And the final warning shot, very Steynian actually:

"The paradox is that the welfare state, designed to improve security and dampen social conflict, now looms as an engine for insecurity, conflict and disappointment. Facing the hard questions of finding a sustainable balance between individual protections and better economic growth, the Europeans have spent years dawdling. The parallel with our situation is all too obvious. "

The Top Five Reasons Why It Sucks to Be An Antisemite

1) POISON: Having anti-Semitic bile running through your veins generally poisons your ability to enjoy many other of the simple pleasures of life. Most anti-Semites are so angry so much of the time that it is hard for them to feel joy about anything. The ugliness of the soul tends to bleed into the general appearance. How many people truly worth banging do you usually see at the average “anti-Israel” demonstration, on college campuses or in the Middle East? Conversely, how many genuinely hot babes or guys really want to bang the average pro-Palestinian demonstrator? They might be easier lays, but they are definitely the “moped” types.

2) GENERALLY MAKES YOU A BUM: So much of your time is spent figuring ways to blame the Jews that your productivity generally suffers. It’s hard to maintain a real job when you need to be putting so much effort into your latest anti-Semitic conspiracy theories and attending all of the anti-Jewish functions and demonstrations wherever you live (or posting on the internet or writing letter to the editor).

3) WE DON’T REALLY CARE: Most Jews don’t actually give a shit what you think. Sure, there are the liberal ones who think that they can either buy your love, or eat enough bacon cheeseburgers and calamari to prove they are just as goyish as you, but most of us don’t really care that you hate us. In fact, some of us find it wildly exciting and even moderately arousing that we can literally torment you just by existing. That is SO COOL.

3) HISTORY IS A RUTHLESSLY BITCHY MISTRESS, PERHAPS EVEN A JEWESS:

Generally speaking, the societies that have fucked over their Jews (murder, torture, forced conversions, pogroms, genocides, expulsions, etc..) have either been sucked into the toilet bowl of history, or not done particularly well in the post-Jew era. Societies that have been good to Jews have generally prospered. That’s not likely to change (*waves at Europe*).

4) WE DON’T NEED YOUR FAVORS ANYMORE:

Despite your best efforts, Israel and the Jews are not going to disappear. We have a country now, and an army and a navy and an air force and even a nuclear bomb. You can hate us as much as you want, but that’s really your problem, and not ours. We have outlasted the Greeks, the Romans, the Spanish Inquisition, Russian pogroms and the Nazis and we’ll outlast you, too. And that’s a promise, so fuck you.

Notes on Steyn's Inspring Toronto Evening

Not really verbatim, but pretty damned close if I do say so myself!!

Editor's Note: It’s actually hard to know where to start when talking about an evening listening to Mark Steyn live. That’s why I think I will start at the end, instead of the beginning. I left the evening feeling relatively optimistic (incredible given the topics that were covered), and ever more convinced that Mark Steyn is one of our generations most important social commentators (and human rights activists). It was a privilege to hear him speak ever eloquently and spontaneously about so many of the issues that concern him and clearly-the audience-on a day to day basis.

Steyn has no trouble stating what some people feel is “the obvious”-that our culture, Anglophone democracies-are superior to other cultures-and even superior to European experimentations with democracy. We musn’t pretend that the Taliban are equal to us, they are not. Aboriginal healing circles are not equal to common law, and those who pretend that they are endanger us all. This charade, he said, has consqueneces.

We are also surrounded by poseurs, says Steyn. Mick Jagger was no Mississipi bluesman. In fact, Steyn said-he wouldn’t have lasted 20 minutes in the Mississippi Delta. Elvis wore mascara! The only non-poseurs are the gangsta rappers who kill people. We’ve come a long way from Doris Day and her singing partners!

Now this is a keeper: Mark quipped that Euroweenies have “geo-political Tourette’s”. OMG. Could you not die? I was dying. This is when liberal wankers spontaneously burst out with a “OMG I HATE BOOOOOOOSH” bit, or “OOOOH BOOOOSH SCARES ME”.

Mark says that this is an encapsulation of our problem. Bush is scary? Bush scares you? Imaginary issues. Think about Poland, he said, caught 60 odd years ago between the Third Reich on one side and the USSR on the other. That’s scary. We don’t have scary now. We have decadence.

President Obama in particular, he said behaves like a 19^th century isolationist republican, but there is no such thing as isolationism when a Saudi Mom can send her little kid on an aircraft, strap on the semtex and blow up buildings in New York.

The problem is also that the transition from Pax Britanica to Pax Americana was so seamless, and so peaceful that people think that is “normal”. It was not-it was an anomaly.

But evil is time consuming to content with, and time consuming to fight. So Mark takes pacifists seriously-at their words.

“All we are saying is give peace a chance.”

Mark went a little nuts on these peace freaks. He said that the people who just want to strum their guitars, smoke a little weed and feel like THAT makes a difference are not harmless, they are part of the indulgence problem.

Here’s another keeper: “Greek ‘exceptionalism’ is becoming more universal’.

Another problem with Obama is his willful disregard of the historical record. Islam is opportunist and getting more extreme. But the mortal fear of being murdered is keeping people silent.

“When the most powerful man in the world cannot stay truthful to the historical record, we are in big, big trouble.”

On the left abandoning true liberal causes, and abandoning the Mohammad cartoonists: “maybe nobody has anything to fear-what we should fear is that the left abandoned him, and he ends up on a panel with right wing lunatics like me!

He said let’s look at the feminists, when they abandon the Muslim women, the gay scene that is already vanishing from Amsterdam, beaten up by men of certain persuasion, the left picks the path of least resistance-they will abandon everyone, those gay guys and those lefties, how is it that the only guy who will speak up is that looney right wing guy (that would be Steyn!!)

Most disturbing is the Jews, the liberal Jews who put their faith the state to police what we can think and read and say-it did not work out in Weimar. People like BERNIE FARBER don’t get it. Commissars like Barbara Hall will not save the Jews from anti-Semitism, this is the world that Bernie built. Jews should know better. It was like “Jewdaupia” in Weimer Germany, there were lots of speech laws. That didn’t work out too well. The world and states don’t have a great track record with “saving” Jews.

The Palestinians, are the ultimate expression of new colonialism, not Israel. They fulfill the role of pathetic little savages that need our largesse and protection and money. But the “helpers” can drive around in white Chevy Suburbans and feel really good about themselves too. The human capital of the Palestinians-he said-has been deformed. Those who want out of the permanent refugee situation get out physically. That’s why there are smart Palestinian doctors, engineers, professors OUTSIDE of the refugee camps. The blame of Israel for everything continues, the Jews have a conscience. They will feel bad when lives are lost-even on the enemy side.

“There is something profoundly wicked in the contortions that Europeans are willing to make, with respect to their own history with the Jewish people, we are on the cusp of the most evil possibility of all because of the complicity of the west in that complicity.”

In America, tyranny, Mark says, starts at the micro level. Tyranny is when Americans brag about having guns, but their lemonade stands are fine and their pie sales at church are regulated by government or shut down. The gun nuts new motto should be “you can pry the Church pie out of my cold dead hands”. OMG how AWESOME is that?

Now, California, one of the most broke states in America, is regulating the elasticity of bed sheets.

“George the Third would not have regulated bed sheets. California is broke, but they apparently need federally regulated bed linen.”

Steyn does not want us “borrowing” our sovereignty from the powers above. He wants us only to lend them power in ever diminishing quantities.

“If a school child cannot sell lemonade on their front lawn, your society is no longer free and you must resist that.”

We also need to distinguish between Anglophone democracies and Europe, which has a more troubled history with democracy.

“There is a reason why Haiti is Haiti and Barbados is Barbados, and it’s so obvious that we think it’s impolite to mention. So then nobody dares to mention it. The entire post-WWII order is an act of effacement and affirmative action, created international organizations. It is where you are obliged to treat the Foreign Minister the same of Syria as Sweden and it begins to corrode you.”

There was talk about the corruption of the public education system and how we only fight back when the truly disgusting things become public. The leftist garbage is most insidious when it perculates through history, geography, literature lessons to the point where our children are brainwashed. Our children will not even know what they have lost when our culture is lost.

Mark says: We need to push back in kindergarten, worry about the lemonade stand ourselves and not wait for a messiah to come along. All liberty is grassroots.

It was a fantastic, inspiring evening and I am sure that Mark will further develop many of these incredible thoughts into even more engaging and thoughtful full essays and books. Thank you, Mark Steyn.

A Very Steynish Thursday in Toronto!!

I'm wired!

The Steyn appearance did not disappoint.

In addition to providing his usual great humour, sage advice about the entire world, insights that came so fast and furious that my poor Jew fingers got tired typing them, there were several other wickedly cool things about the evening.

I have copious notes, but will have to digest and post them tomorrow (hopefully).

Here are some random one-offs:

I am not Mark Steyn's bodyguard, but I got to play one in a Reform synagogue for five minutes.

Mark-if you ever need a five foot five Jewish mother body guard again, have your people call my people. (This bodyguard got a nice bear hug from Teh Steyn, too. I may never wash my outfit again...)

Steyn is a spiffy dresser and Melissa the publicist STILL has great boots (and I told her as much) and Tiffany is a real, live person and super nice as well. Steyn travels with a classy entourage.

The Rabbi was a bit, errr, how shall I say this, ummm-a bit faggy (not that there's anything wrong with that, blah blah blah why is he a "Rabbi" if he is sooooooooooooooo ghey, but whatever).

The crowed loved Mark, but I wish the audience wasn't so damned geriatric. Hello young people-it's your world, too.

Mark Steyn also ripped Bernie Farber and Jewish liberals a new one, and if that doesn't send tingles down a rightwinger's leg then nothing will.

Like I said-I have lots of notes and hope to post more tomorrow.

I love Steyn, but even I couldn't handle the though of throngs of Toronto's right wing alte-kacker elites fighting for a few moments and some kosher desserts so I hadda bail early.

If it was dining Al Steyno, indeed.

I was thoroughly entertained, comme d'habitude, by your brilliant assessment of all erstwhile candidates seeking the nomination. It seems to me that your former listeners are unaccustomed to hearing an opinion without forming one of their own, and as a result feel their judgment being impugned by an explanation they are unwilling to accept.

The Buckley Rule notwithstanding, we need an accurate measure of the facts (which you always provide), and from this we can make our own decision on who to vote for. Perhaps the irate callers are upset because they don't realize that you are not telling anyone who should be their choice, and are overlooking the fact that you don't even have a choice, since you can't vote.

I don't feel you're trying to influence anyone; rather, that you are simply condensing what you know into a lovely pudding and serving it warm in a bowl.

Please, sir, I'd like some more.
